OnlyFlans – Fruited Custard Sour

Description

For our 2023 GABS entry we let the brewers loose and charged them with creating a beer they wanted to make. They decided a pastry style sour with fruit would be interesting and what goes better with fruit and pastry than lashings of custard? Introducing a fruit flan inspired beer…..OnlyFlans, our Fruited Custard Sour.

Vital Stats: ABV: 6.9%  IBU: 7
Malts: Pale, Oats, Chit Malt
Hops:
Kettle: Minimal bittering
Yeast: Fermobrew Acid and US-05
 
Additions: Lactose, maltodextrin, vanilla extract and fruit puree of banana, blueberry, passionfruit and mango.
 
Appearance: Orange and very hazy with soft white foam that dissipates due to the fruit addition.
 
Aroma and Flavour: Strong fruity aromas of mango, blueberry, banana and passionfruit with a whack of sweet vanilla and some floral and fruity yeast esters. Sweet caramel, vanilla, fruit and custard flavours.
 
Mouthfeel: Big thick body with high residual sweetness and a lingering sourness. Low to medium carbonation and a sweet finish.
 
Pair it with: A million other GABS festival beers, a bowl of good vanilla ice cream or just enjoy after a satisfying meal for dessert.
